"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and simply take up his cross and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the world, yet lose his soul"? Mark 8: 34-36, NIV
This has been a long hard summer and yet so fully alive with all the possibilites that God has shown me. I am rapidly approaching the nearly finished process of co-authoring a book on organic dog health with a holistic doctor, introduced out a new product line with Saving Grace Enterprises, and ramping up for an o-nline conference with vets, health practitioners, etc., to help inform on ending a superbug staph illness. Now this all seems sort of serious right? Well not according to what God has been telling me all week!
Last Sunday in service, our pastor had an extremely interesting sermon on Psalm 23 even as we shut out a set on The Godward Heart. We"ve all heard and read that psalm since we were children most likely, no matter what Christian faith we are. However, I"ve never heard it presented like this and that is most likely why it resonated so loudly with me. I"d like to do my usual roundabout method of getting to the idea here...
Psalm 2-3 is focused on the Shepard and His sheep, right? Understanding what a shepard"s job was and how h-e went about it in Jesus" day is what got my attention. Anyone who has read my articles here realize that I"m not only a pet lover but my business is a business in natural pet care. When our pastor started describing how a shepard cares for his sheep and what instruments h-e uses, I felt like God was sitting close to me and whispering in my ear and it sent shivers up my back in a most delightful way!
I have wondered for-a long time how God would use me in an all natural pet care company. He Then brought me as well as Dee Kreidel and Saving Grace Enterprises to make our new product line in custom hand-tooled leather collars, leashes and journals. Huh I said? How does that choose normal pet care Lord? I got an appealing response Sunday AND the one that said not to take myself so seriously. I will arrive at all-that in a little.
The shepard had a staff (we all know that) that was about 5 or 6 ft high I believe our pastor said. It"d the hook at the end we all learn about and that has been to keep sheep collected in and not walking. Problem? Ever wonder why God describes us as sheep? It"s not a flattering statement because they"re not the best creatures in creation, and they need constant tending and watch. The shepard also carried a baton regarding the size of what our police officers bring today. If you believe anything at all, you will seemingly hate to research about pastor lee mcfarland
. He"d use that to fend off attacking predators. H-e also used it for something much more harsh.
If one sheep was continually wandering off and maybe not learning to stick to the herd, the shepard would utilize the baton to split one or two of this sheep"s legs and then immediately set them. Then he had carry that sheep around his neck until he was completely cured. The reason? For the sheep to become influenced by the shepard for all its requirements and to bond entirely with him. Again, God does the same to His children.
Yet another interesting point the shepard would do is to place oil on each sheep"s head and also human anatomy to ward off pests (ticks, ticks, travels, the usual suspects). Today the oil known is not your vegetable cooking oil as that will not defend against insects. Nope it had been what we now know as crucial oils (which incidentally still are used extensively in that part of the world for his or her healing benefits and fast-growing here in the USA) combined with probably olive oil. The oils served another purpose also. Sheep are goofy and get angry with one another over anything (again like us). When they did get angry, they had go getting into each other to butt heads so hard that they could kill each other. Together with the oil on their heads, it would help them to skid off each other preserving them from killing each other.
Yep, I am addressing your pet organization with Dee and the "serious stuff." Therefore for their own defense the shepard would hold a big leather poncho he"d use throughout inclement weather and also use as a "pup tent" of sorts to settle. So we have got Dee"s leather products and my essential oils in the pet business. Hmmm. Leather was the Shepard"s defense. My girlfriend learned about pastor lee mcfarland

Here was what was so interesting if you ask me when our pastor got to the Three Points of Application part:
1. Since the Shepard is in get a handle on, I dont need to get myself therefore seriously. It is ABOUT Him. This does not mean to not take ISSUES on the planet really because we ought to. It indicates never to get OURSELVES so seriously. If we do keep getting ourselves so seriously, then that"s really internalized pleasure and wrong thinking rooted in the inability to surrender.
2. Because the Shepard cares, I could relieve my troubles to Him. Matthew 11:28, 1 Peter 5:7.
3. Since the Shepard is qualified, I can trust Him to guide my life.
God said in no uncertain terms not simply WHAT I"m likely to be doing but also WHY, and HOW everything tied in with WHO He"s. What He didn"t tell me was WHEN. Leave it to Him to keep tempering and teaching as He goes about His purpose.
On Tuesday or Wednesday after this riveting sermon on Sunday, John Fischer of the Purpose Driven Life wrote this in his devotional Acquittal by Penguin the next paragraph:
"This is not to state that any behavior in-the natural kingdom legitimizes similar activity among human beings, but I do think God has provided us animals to mirror human behavior, and help us see ourselves in still another light and not just take ourselves or our roles therefore seriously. " (italics mine)
Hey, do you consider God is trying to tell me something? So then I was listening to some contemporary Christian music on Thursday while doing my housework. I had been playing Jennifer Knapp"s C-d, Lay it Down, and the music "In-to You" got on. What in the chorus "relieve me of myself, bring me in-to You" just stuck out like a sore thumb and I have paid attention to that song a variety of times. I KNOW God was telling me to take a chill pill, put it down, trust Him, do not take myself so seriously, He"s an objective for the work I"m doing so allow Him to work, be treated of myself, be determined by Him and just enjoy the journey! WHEW! What an experience too brethren. Therefore if anybody is getting too "puffed-up" maybe most of us simply need to overcome ourselves and rest within the Shepard. I sure don"t wish to have to understand the hard way and simply take a 2X4 baton!.
